Tarjuma al-Quran ul Mubiin
Hafiz Faheem-Uddin Ahmad Siddiqui Merathi was born in March 1893 in the city of Meerut (UP). His father’s name was Hafiz Shams-Uddin Ahmad Siddiqui, who was a landlord by profession. There was a strong tradition of religious education in the family, therefore he received his early Islamic education from the scholar Hafiz Bedar-Uddin.
Alongside religious studies, he also completed his English education up to matriculation from Faiz e Aam College, Meerut. After completing his studies, he became associated with the same college in the field of teaching. He had complete command over English, Persian, and Arabic languages.
Throughout his life, he performed 71 Shabeena (complete recitations of the Qur’an in Ramadan nights) and studied all major schools of thought in Islam. According to him, “My school of thought is only Allah, the Prophet (SAW), and the Qur’an.”
After the creation of Pakistan, he migrated with his wife Amtul Rehman and his seven sons: Naseem Uddin, Waseem Uddin, Saleem Uddin, Zaeem Uddin, Qaseem Uddin, Kaleem Uddin, Jaseem Uddin, and two daughters Ghufran and Furqan to Pakistan. He settled in Pakistan and became associated with Cosmopolitan School, from where he retired in 1965. Post retirement, he devoted his life — from Tahajjud to Fajr prayers, in the continued dhikr of Allah, recitation of the Holy Qur’an along with its translation and tafsir(interpretation). He also reflected on the scientific nature of the Quraan.
At the age of 89, Hafiz Faheem Uddin Ahmad Siddiqui Merathi sensed that the existing Urdu translations of the Qur’an had complex vocabulary from Persian, Sanskrit, Hindi, and Gujarati languages and this translation was available in Pakistan which was not easy to understand for someone with limited command in language. These translations often were written under the Arabic text, which further made it difficult to understand as the translated words would be misplaced in translation and sentence became confusing. Therefore, for the first time in Pakistan he initiated a simple translation titled “Al-Qur’an Al-Mubeen” in October 1986, presenting the Qur’an in very simple and clear Urdu, with idiomatic, verse-by-verse translation arranged side by side for better understanding. He completed this remarkable work at the age of 93 in approximately 8 months. The simple translation of Al Quraan ul Mubiin, made it easy for less-educated individuals and children to understand and gain guidance and knowledge from the Qur’an. Hafiz Faheem Uddin Ahmad Siddiqui Merathi on 28 January 1991 at the age of 98 returned to the True Creator.
